14-Oct-07 New York City Concert Review

We got a third fine show, here in NYC, last night. Van gave us some special moments. The band were on top of their game and sounded superb.

Again, here's Dan's take:

The Sunday night finale of Van's NYC run was not about generating
excitement, or clamor, or audience reaction, it was about the pursuit of
beauty and how the arc of a voice can come close to conveying emotional
perfection.

As viscerally exciting as Saturday's show was, Sunday's was about creating
a work of art in some of the most beautiful singing and phrasing I have
ever heard from Van. It was an expression of heart and soul.
It's really as simple as that.

Hi! How are you?

It's Sac from Italy. I love THE MAN and I love this site.

Can you tell me something more about the re-release of the back catalogue?

What does it mean in Van's site "available in the US store now?"

Where can I find the song "at the end of the day?". I mean, it was on the "rough god" cdsingle, but unfortunately i gave it to a friend who never gave it back to me... So, is there any place where I can buy that song (also as an mp3)?

I have been a fan for years. I attended the show on the 14th. To be honest it was dissapointing. He was on for under 90 minutes, ran most songs too long with a regular round of solos by each musician. A number of the solos were inspired, but for the most part I would have preferred to have heard more Van Morrison songs vs. extended solo versions with the exception of Van Morrison vocal solos. For $250 a ticket we should expect more!
Adding to the disspontment were the many audience participants who interupted the subtle moments by arguing over seats, coming and leaving numerous times during the performance, arriving late and gerally acting more like they were in a pub than a theater. BTW Bobby Bland was much better than I expected, also almost ruined by idiots arriving late.

Could not diagree more. Magic Time, Stranded and the closing And the Healing Has Begun were mesmerizing. Van's voice was crystal clear and strong. This was a special night. So what if some of the folks at the United Palace were a bit late or rude--the show was worth every penny.

I was at the Sunday show....I have seen him many times, some times he is magical other not so much. To me last night was no so much. I go to a lot of concerts, I did not leave this show thinking Wow! Yes there were a few good moments but I was disappointed. I don't care what the song set is....just what you put into it. For the cost of the tickets, he should be a professional and give it all he's got...not just a clear voice but put some emotion into it. That's his job, that's what we are paying to see.

Uh, I was at the show on the 14th. OK, throughout the show he had this runner, or whatever, keep his "spirits" satisfied. Awesome. This cat barely sang, and basically let his band solo the F out of the show. Not a cool scene.
