21-Jun-08 Castellon Concert Review

El Pais: Rough Translation
Van Morrison Presents Keep it Simple

Van Morrison has his rules. Ninety minutes from beginning and without stopping. But it's ninety minutes of pure magic.

A concert without concessions for the fans, without greatest hits. SonĂ³ Mondance, Have I told you lately or Entertainment. Nice selection of songs from new record. Beautiful Lover Come Back, Keep it Simple & Behind the Ritual.

Van played harmonica, saxophone, a little piano and mandolin. His heartbreaking voice sometimes dropping to a whisper. The theater was filled with people rising in ovation more than once. Themes linked without pause. The band carefully follow Van's orders especially in the longer jamming songs, his voice perfectly tuned. And suddenly Van leaves without a farewell or acknowledgments. He then comes back for Burning Ground & Healing Has Begun.
